Before we can discuss the double attack, we need to cover tactical questions that each chess player should know. These questions should be asked before you make a move. If you answer these questions correctly, you can plan properly and win.

The first three are:

1. Is my King in Danger?

2. Are any of my pieces hanging or in trouble?

3. What is my opponent’s plan?

If you answered the first three questions and found problems in your position before you can launch your attack, make the right moves to protect yourself from defeat. Then, go to the second set of three questions.

Once you have answered these questions, in detail, you can then change the questions around and ask:

1. Is his King in Danger?

2. Are any of his pieces hanging or in trouble?

3. What should my plan be?

As an experienced player, I think these questions through on each move. It has become habit. I don’t always say these words to myself. While looking at diagrams in this book, we will ask these questions.
