Sometimes the pressure of a national championship event gets to you.  Here, Ross Makulec decides that JP Roman is using too much of his oxygen.

The joys of group analysis.  Clockwise from left:  David Black, John Brown, JP Roman, Paul Dammann, Ross Makulec, Andrew Pipathsouk, Troy Makulec.

John Brown during his last-round dogfight with Chicago’s Brandon Hammothe.  The game ended in a draw, completing an excellent 3.5/4 stretch for John to close the tournament.

“Dude, where’s my queen?”  Eric Mosher looks very, very relaxed during Sunday’s play.

Andrew Pipathsouk must have been wondering when he would be paired with someone within 200 rating points of him.

There is no truth to the rumor that Gloria Miner got advice from the stuffed psychedelic jellyfish she carried for luck throughout the event.

Fame, fortune, the cost of dusting supplies.  International Master Greg Shahade poses with K-8 U1000 national champion Steven Jaconette and his new hardware.

One wonders what Gloria Miner would have done if she’d won first place in the K-8 Under 750.  Even the 15th place trophy is about half as tall as she is.

“Mom, I didn’t get you a card for Mother’s Day, but here’s something else for me to leave laying around the house! “  Victoria Rozman poses with her son Jon, holding his K-9 section prize.
